Minister of Health Patty Hajdu provided an update on the cases of the virus in Canada. She confirmed that the Government of Canada remains in close contact with the World Health Organization and other international partners, as well as with our provincial and territorial counterparts. The Minister emphasized that the risk to Canadians remains low, and that all preventative measures recommended by the World Health Organization have been implemented in Canada to detect, contain, and prevent the spread of the virus. Minister of Global Affairs François-Philippe Champagne and Minister Hajdu briefed the Prime Minister on the plans being developed to repatriate and welcome Canadians who wish to return to Canada from the affected areas in China. Minister Champagne updated the group on efforts to reach Canadians in the affected areas, and reaffirmed that consular services are available 24 hours a day for Canadians who require help. The Prime Minister also stressed the importance of a responsible, measured approach.
