标题: 求教:是否可以申请GST/HST for dependent??
报税时,I claim the child care expense paid to my parent($7000 per child). Can I also claim my parent as my dependant?(about $ 2550 per dependant). Can I claim GST/HST for my parent who is my dependant?

Please help!.

I guess that if you claim the child care expense paid to your parent, then your parent must claim the income tax form also because they have income now. Depends on the amount, they might not be eligible for your dependant. You can see the detail in the guide.
But I am not sure for this, just putative result.

your parent should report 7000 for his or her income.

As long as the person's net income is equal or greater than $2550, he or she can not be claimed as your dependant(you won't get any benifit). However, for example if his income is $1550 in 2004, you can still claim $1000 deduction for him as he is your dependant.

If a person is your dependant, he can not apply GST/HST credit since he is part of your family(a dependant of you).

Be careful.
If your parents are not immigrant, you must be careful for the income since they do not have SIN card and can not work. If they are immigrant, they should report the income tax even can not apply the GST/HST. You should calculate carefully whether it is good for you to transfer your money to your parents as their income. I think it maybe no big difference. Otherwise, it is a fault for the tax report system.

If your parents are not immigrant, you surely can not pay them for child care. BUT you can claim them as you OTHER DEPENDANT(search for "other dependant" in the help of a tax software), and there fore you have $2550/person deductable. Note. other dependant is a term only in quebec tax return not in federal. Which means you can not get money back from federal but you can get tax credit from Quebec goverment.
