-----------------------------------------------------------
This time I like to write about the Chinese race in general. Though I am an overseas Chinese who does not read nor write Chinese due to lack of ample opportunities during my younger school days, I had never once discard the proud fact that I am a Chinese.
From my early childhood days, I had always had deep interest in reading books on history, geography and even biography of famous and outstanding people.
The one aspect I admire most was the history of the Chinese people. The American might be the most powerful nation in the world, the English might had offered to the world the most important spoken language, that is English (which I sadly had to use to write this email to you), the Japanese might be the world greatest innovators, the Germans might be the greatest industrialist, but no race on this earth can offers the world an unbreakable historical, cultural and traditional harmony like the Chinese race that dates back to thousands of years of historical facts.
We Chinese might not currently be the most powerful race but we have achieve many that all Chinese in the world should be proud to say, I am a Chinese.
Food
Name me any other race that offers a wider and more delicious crusine of food than Chinese food and I promise you I would not eat Chinese food for a week. The only other race that offers fabulous spread of food are the French but only the Chinese can proudly say that they cook and eat anything that moves in whatever style imaginable.
Population
We are everywhere on earth for we are the latest number in terms of population. Come on, name me a major city in the world where you do not see a Chinese along the street or a Chinese restaurant or even a Chinatown.
Enterprising Spirit
We, Chinese might not be great innovators, but Chinese people are actively involved in many major technological, biological, scientific and other major fields within the world economy.
Take Microsoft Windows 95/98/ME/2000/XP for example. The Americans might be the brains behind the original concepts, but the vast majority of programmers who actually developed the Operating System that drives more than 90% of the PCs and Notebooks world-wide were Chinese programmers who are working for Microsoft.
Many of the world top surgeons are Chinese, and even in the NASA space programme in USA, a vast majority of the scientists are Chinese.
Even in the field of Architectural, many notable and famous landmark were conceptualized by Chinese. A good example is I.M. Pei.
I can still recalled those times when I was doing my first degree of studies in Leeds University in England. I used to work then as a part-time bartender in a Pub there. One
evening, while walking back to campus after work, I came upon a bunch of rowdy young drunken English lads across the street. They shouted to me, "Hey Vietnamese, Go Home". I shouted back, "Hey, I am no Vietnamese, I am a Chinese and I am Proud to be One".作者: xulao 时间: 2002-5-30 13:05
Yes, we are Chinese, and will always be.
