i bought some of my stuff (MD, palm, DC...etc) from ebay. it is quite important to check the seller's feedbacks. Even if the price is very attractive, you should not take any risk to bid if there are few positive feedbacks.
To avoid taxes for the new products, you can ask sellers to claim ur stuff as a gift via either United States Postal Service(USPS) or UPS. Most of ebay sellers will agree. But i am not sure if it still works after 911.
