"Bigos is Poland's (and probably Ukraine's) national dish. Bigos was in times past eaten only by the Polish aristocracy as they were the only Poles who had access to game and could afford to include so much meat in a dish. Traditionally it would have included more game such as wild boar, pheasant, or venison, but nowadays is most often made with pork . . . . . (From: http://polandpoland.com/bigos.html)

Per person:
1-2 sausages 香肠 (~1" diameter 5-6" long, sales @ ~$1.99/lb at Metro/Loblaw/etc. )

Slice raw sausage in middle, u have an opened sausage of ~2 halves. Doesn't matter, whatever shape u like.

这是啥?人肉?作者: montrealpost 时间: 2008-7-19 22:23
坏蛋! Give me the proper chinese word, else I'll change the title to (波兰国菜 - 腌白菜 啥?人肉? 大杂烩) tomorrow morning.
Polish Hunters Stew - Google translated hunter into 猎人 :frown: . Mixed meat translated into 混合肉. May be u should tell Google to hire u to improve their translation software, apparently they pay well!
Hope I've explained clear enough on the type of sausage used. It's the big fat sausage with raw ground meat inside, pork I believe. They may call it Italian ?, we prefer the spicy ones (辣) for this dish. No brand/President Choice/whatever brand, doesn't matter.
潮州咸菜(酸菜) could be used instead of Eastern European Sauerkraut, but it's easier and cheaper to buy sauerkraut in Montreal, $1 or $1.5 a big can/jar.
This dish doesn't look good, those who are fussy can add a bit of tomato paste to brighten the brown colour. May be a dash of parsley can cover up a bit.
