Requirements: The NDG Community Council is seeking a community worker in tenant’s rights who is eligible for an Emploi Quebec subsidy. You may be eligible to receive the subsidy if: - You are receiving employment insurance payments, or - You are receiving social assistance payments (welfare), or - You are unemployed and not receiving any public assistance. - Note: students are not eligible to receive the subsidy Skills and qualifications: - Excellent interpersonal and communication skills - Experience working in a community setting - Basic computer skills (familiarity with Microsoft Access an asset) - Ability to communicate in French and English. A third language, especially Mandarin, would be a definite asset. - Knowledge of tenants’ rights an asset - Knowledge of the NDG neighbourhood an asset
Duties: The successful candidate will work with the housing community organizer to accomplish the following tasks: Tenant mobilization - Provide information to tenants by phone, in meetings and through door-to-door visits - Organize events to bring tenants together - Accompany tenants who wish to share information with their neighbours within their building and help them take actions together Research and record keeping - Maintain a database of information about buildings in bad condition in NDG - Revise, update and add to information materials - Research building ownership in NDG
