Most likely I'll change to
1.  Primus Basic Phone $19.95+ $0.40(911++)+T=$22.97 (vs.$26.38 by Bell).  + get Aeroplan for spending.

Ideally, I can find an old Primus customer who will transfer their old $30 package to me, IF that's allowed.

REMINDER:  Many cheap VOIP phones, check for yourself.  Do not use Primus VOIP phone, PROBLEMS.

刚刚支付了我们的保费。有房子的同学们应该都买了保险。在经济下滑的期间，可能有更多的爆窃案和抢劫。租房子的同学们，如果您家里有许多有价值的东西，可能要考虑保险。

我们的小地方没有什么有价值的东东，但需要买责任的保险。例如: 我们的水管爆裂==>影响周围的邻居。

已经在用 XYZ :cool: ，今年的保费还可以，不知道明年如何去找更便宜+更好的了，哎！加拿大保险万岁，哎！

There are 2 places in Chinatown for Hair cut at about $5+, one on Clark, NE of LaGauthetiere.  The other one inside the Chinese Building closer to MTR.

Besides ChinaTown, cheap haircuts are available at different Hair Cutting Schools.  In the old days, I went to one near Beaubien, can't remember name now.  Followings are 2 that I remember:

1.  Ecole de Coiffure Internationale Unisexes, 514-737-5200
4755 Van-Horne, Suite 107 (Plamondon MTR)

2.  Tornade L'academie de Coiffure
Ahuntsic, Plateau, Brossard, Trois-Rivieres, check www.tornade-coiffure.com
This one is more expensive, but 2 or 3 times a year, they advertise in local free newspaper for Hair cut at ~$5.

If you are interested in getting a jacket under $10, besides the used stores, you can also pay attention to "bazzar". There are often information on Suburben paper

the season espcially in summer or close to xmas there are often Bazzar very week. You can find really good deals especially in the end of the day. I went once every piece of clothes only for $5, no mater suit/jacket, pants or shirt, brand new and not bad brands. Spent $50 got a lot of things.

Now i am more into children's clothes sale, this week there are 2 warehouse sale.

It was the International card that's cheaper in rates, believe there's ?? fee or whatever.

I've made a few calls from pay phone last week with the PC Prepaid Card, still only $0.04 per minute.
Both 1-514-###-#### and 514-###-####(without 1 in front) worked.
For calls that no one answered(no answering machine), no charge.

TRICK for calling Primus:
- call in morning(s),
- choose [color="Red"]FRENCH option,
- u will be "branched" to the CS centre in Maritime.

Those people are complete fluent in both English and French. Mostly has been there for a long timer. A lot more knowledgable and curtious.

There is no such program by [color="Red"]STM(Montreal - http://stm.info) nor [color="Red"]RTL(South Shore - www.rtl-longueuil.qc.ca).

However, 100% sure discount programs exist for [color="Red"]AMT(Commuter Train including STM portion). Basically pay for 11 months with your credit card, then AMT give u the 12th month FREE. There are 2 different programs by AMT.

I believe most dentists charge ~$80-$100 for teeth cleaning. Plus ~$50 for first time x-ray. For those of u who don't have private insurance, check out the following. It will cost $35 for cleaning, x-ray included. They can/will refer u to other dentists if more work needed (may be at regular $, not sure).

A.  Brand (牌子)
We've used so many computers and laptops in our lives.  Many sayings and comparisons on different brands.  When we bought our last laptop in 2007, my decision:-
1.  buy the cheapest one in the store :p
2.  use a Gold Credit Card that provides extended warranty.

With today's price of laptop . . . . commodity only.  Any cheap one will do the job for word processing and webbing.  After the 2 years warranty . . . . . if the dame thing breaks, just buy a new one.  :cool:

Our 2.5 years old Acer is still the best laptop I've ever used.  Friend's HP . . .  see below.

B.  Warranty (保修)
1.  Use a Credit Card that gives u extended warranty, normally double.
2.  If your computer break down shortly after warranty, call and check if there's any recall.  See below.

C.  Return/Refund
Few years ago, I've heard of Costco giving ~6 months refund policy.  Anyone know?!

Friend's HP DV 9310 TX2, purchased May 2007.
1.  Repaired Oct. 2007, apparently there's a design defeat, something about the fan and motherboard.

2.  Fall 2008, machine blacked out.  Original warranty finished, thought Gold Card would cover repair.  Called HP, there was a recall on the model, HP changed the motherboard at $0.  HP arranged all shipping at $0.

3.  Nov. 2009, blacked out again.  Called HP, recall of the machine was over in June.  Customer Service offered to elevate the case.  End result: HP changed new motherboard again at no charge. Shipping $0.

4.  Dec. 2009, blacked out after 2 weeks.  HP fixed it again.  There's a 3 months warranty(AUTOMATICALLY) after each fixing.

Unfortunately, I couldn't talk HP into giving my friend a new laptop.

标题: Parc La Fontaine 聚会
经常看到你们在 Parc Angrignon 组织聚会，其实 Parc La Fontaine 可能会更好。有湖，有n个??球场。。。。有很多东东。除了在街道上停车，还有免费停车场 (好像是从 Rachel 转入 Calixa Lavalee, 尽头是个不小的免费停车场 = Centre Culturel Calixa-Lavallée 旁）。

在公园的东北角(Rachel/Emile Duploye) 有两个半封闭的地方，n 多野餐桌，先到先得。烧烤会，生日会，临时自制?球场。。。。遍布公园各处。另外，在冬天的时候，有免费湖上溜冰，有音乐的

。好像还有人在公园里玩 cross country skiing :p .

标题: 现在的ING DIRECT 推出了免费的DEBIT Card
一般的银行都对Debit Card 收年费（老年人除外），还有消费次数的限制，存款最低限额。只有ING 银行不收年费，没有存款最低限额，无限制消费次数，非常好用。如果不是它没有信用卡业务，我就考虑取消其他的银行卡了。

CALLING CARD, 预付卡不好用，卡里的钱经常莫名其妙消失，可是如果注册在手机或固定电话上，就很好用。因为每次打的信息都很明白地显示在帐单上，不怕它乱扣钱。

谢谢 e同学分享信息！ING 银行长期有转介计划 (Referral Program)，如果介绍新客户，双方各得一些钱（奖励）。如果其他同学有兴趣，请直接联系 e同学(send Private Message)，或另外开帖子问。

CALLING CARD 预付电话卡没有莫名其妙乱扣钱，51楼已经写了扣钱方法。但是有点乱计分钟，例如：用5分钟扣除6或7分钟的钱，用15分钟扣16至20分钟的钱。但是，因为一分钟只收0.5分($0.005)，无所谓！我们主要打电话到欧洲，其他公司收费比较多，不少公司也乱计分钟。测试了很多次不同的公司，在我们来说（+我们的使用量），还是 Calling Card 最好。另外，我们还在用 PC 预付电话卡，在公共电话亭打本地电话仍然是5分钱一分钟，没有50分的公共电话亭费用。

Setting a little money aside for a rainy day and stashing some cash  safely in an emergency fund are good financial practices to keep. You  never know when you'll need some extra cash for a car repair or to help  cover the bills if you fall ill.

But where do you park those savings? Most chequing accounts pay  peanuts on balances, and with interest rates still near record lows,  it's a tough time to be a saver. I checked with CANNEX, an independent company that compares interest rates and other financial data, to find the best deals for savings kept in taxable accounts --  not registered accounts for RRSPs, TFSAs, or RESPs.

You won't find the highest interest rates at any of the big five  Canadian banks, so if you want a more competitive rate on your balance,  it's worth looking at these ten smaller financial institutions, trust  companies, and online banks.

Use the Switch Bank Accounts Checklist to help move your money to a financial institution that offers a more competitive interest rate on savings.

High Interest Savings Accounts
A high interest savings account gives you the flexibility to get at  your savings in a pinch while adding interest to your balance. The trick is to find an account with no minimum balance or monthly fees that eat  into your return.

People's Trust, a bank in Vancouver, is a savings account leader  offering customers 2.1 percent interest and Ally is not far behind at  2.0 percent. ICICI Bank gives internet-only customers 1.6 percent, while Canadian Tire Bank, ING Direct, and President’s Choice Financial (for  balances over $1,000) offer a rate of 1.5 percent.

These companies are all members of the Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation (CDIC), which means your savings are insured for up to $100,000 per deposit by the federal government.
There must be something about saving in Manitoba, since this prairie province has some serious high interest competition.

AcceleRate Financial, a division of Crosstown Civic Credit Union, has a 2.2 percent savings account with no minimum balance required. Achieva Financial, Outlook Financial, and MAXA Financial (which are also owned  by credit unions in Manitoba) are lagging slightly behind at 2.0  percent.

Deposits are 100 percent covered by the Credit Union Deposit Guarantee Corp. of Manitoba (CUDGC) without any limits. You don't need to be a Manitoban to open an account at a Manitoba credit union and benefit from CUDGC coverage.

Guaranteed Investment Certificates (GICs)
GICs are a good option for savers looking to lock in an investment  for terms ranging from one to five years. Don't invest longer than a  five-year term if you want to keep your deposit insurance -- the CDIC  does not insure GICs with an original date to maturity of more than five years.

Given today's rates, it makes little sense to lock in to a one-year  or three-year GIC. Investors can earn higher interest by sticking to  flexible high interest savings accounts. Better deals can be found in  five-year GICs, where the leaders are CDIC-insured Ally and ICICI Bank  at 3.3 percent, ING Direct with 3.0 percent, and President’s Choice  Financial with 2.6 percent.

For the highest five-year GIC rates in Canada you'll have to forgo  CDIC insurance in favour of Manitoba credit union CUDGC coverage. The  top rates can be found at MAXA Financial for 3.6 percent, Outlook  Financial at 3.45 percent, while AcceleRate and Achieva Financial both  boast 3.4 percent five-year GICs.

All of these rates are for non-redeemable GICs, which means you can't cash them in before the five-year term is up. For up-to-date interest  rates be sure to check with each financial institution.

下个月我找时间，把春季外套带回店换一件新的（North Face/Canada Goose/XXX/sss 终身保修的，有朋友换了几次) 。理论上，需要有原始收据，邮寄回厂家进行修补，如果不能修补，厂家看情况可能回送一件新的。这次我们只需要清洗外套，然后带外套回店 (这家店会邮寄厂家) ，然后我们回家等商店的电话，然后回店领新的

。过程需要一或两个月。以前，我们也可能在保修期内换过一双鞋。MP 笨，刚在夏天扔掉一辆 nn年前一手买的自行车。那时忙昏了头没想，我们还有原始收据，其实可能还有保修的

我们选择长期使用 Public Mobile 的手机和 Fizz 的家庭网络，两个推荐码会同时长期有效。更多信息，请参见本帖底部签名的网页链接。

建议新移民或每年回国超过3个月的人选择一个 Fongo 或 Freephoneline(FPL) 电话#，用作加拿大的免费永久电话号码。选好“本地电话号码”后，可以马上设置 Fongo/FPL 的语音信箱。有/换加拿大手机后，可以在 Fongo/FPL 里面设置同时响铃，或直接电话转接到手机。

fongo.com 只有手机APP。freephoneline.ca 没有手机APP，但可以在台式电脑/笔记本上安装专用程序，直接用电脑拨打电话。同一公司，功能相似。Fongo 可以在世界各地用 WiFi/手机数据使用 (听说许多公共WiFi不能用，也申请不了微信)。

Fongo/FPL 公司和服务器位于安省南部，如果你的位置远离服务器，电话质量将会下降。Fongo APP 只有~95％的可靠性，但用电话转接 (call forwarding)，或同时响铃 (ring simultaneously) 到手机绝对没有问题。

我们在2013年初支付了25刀+税(付费转#, 永远保留＃)，将座机电话 a# 转移到 FPL。一直没有时间和精力去设置 FPL 的 ATA。另外在 Fongo 拿个 b#，APP安装在平板，通过WIFI使用。几年前，FPL<-或->Fongo<-或->Fongo 完全可以乱转接(forward)。我们现在日常是 FPL a#-> Fongo b# + Public Mobile c#(bc同时响铃); 谁出门谁带手机，谁在家也可以接/打电话。如果两个人一起出省玩几天，拿起手机就走(可随时改为FPL->Fongo->PM)。两个电话都响时，是A的电话；只有Fongo响时，是B的电话。在7年里，n次更换手机，仅错过2个 FPL电话，都由FPL的留言信箱接听，我们通过电子邮件接收留言。

提醒：
1.  网上有许多免费电话/短信APPS，例如Textnow，但如果您~2周不用APP，会丢失电话＃。可继续使用，但使用新＃。
2.  Fongo 电话和收短信是免费的，但发加拿大短信-$2.79/月, $5.49/3月, $9.99/6月; 发国际短信-$3.99/月 .  .  . $14.99/6月。
3.  如果您对Fongo/FPL感到满意，建议您在Fongo/FPL帐户中存放几刀，这将确保您的Fongo/FPL电话号码以后不会由于没有活动而被删除。

自住房保险快要更新。已经在同一家公司投保了5年，该更换公司了。

网上有人说 Desjardins Insuarance 报价贵，National Bank 的报价跟 Allstate 差不多，通常便宜些。也有人说 AllState 自住房报价便宜，但是出租房的报价很贵。

去年，帮朋友从AGR/Intact 改为 Co-operators，起始报价金额差不多，我通过移除东西降低价格, 忘记了细节。下周有空时取新报价比较价格。

2009年 (40楼）和 2013年 (73楼）写的魁省住房补贴 (Shelter Allowance program)，现在年龄要求降低到50岁，钱增加到$170。注意：此魁省住房补贴也适用于低收入房屋/公寓业主。
