I'm a permanent resident. 16 months ago I applied for citizenship. I was asked to do a fingerprint check 8 months ago, since then I didn't hear anything from CIC.
I worked in a US company 300 miles away from Montreal last year. I did come back to Montreal many times. I'm wondering if Canada government still counts me as Canada residence? Is my away the reason that the application for citizenship went so slow?
It is the tax season. I don't have any income from Canada and I already paid tax in US. Do I need to pay tax as a resident to Canada? If I don't, will my citizenship application be affected? If I do, will Canada government still counts me as Canadian resident for citizenship purpose--even if I didn't present in Canada most of the time nor do I have a strong tie to Canada?
I'm deeply troubled with this and I'm asking for help!
Any advise or information will be highly appreciated!

I am in same situation to undergo a long background check and I could not see any inconsistent with my application according to their published standard.
I heard that the process of application for other nationalities are much shorter and smoother than our application.
we should work together to complain their strange attitude to our application.

I guess what you talked about is the process of immigration application, but I am wondering of my citizenship application, which is undergoing a long waiting period for a so-called background check.do you know how long the process can be for such a check and where we can make a complaint for their possible mistakes.Thanks.
