Drivers who park illegally in Montreal now face a fine of $30, plus administrative fees that raise the total to $42.
The fine is the same whether you exceed your time at a parking meter, park in a restricted or no-stopping zone, a handicapped zone, or a reserved bus lane.
The changes are expected to go into effect Oct. 1, after a city council vote.
Fines will jump according to the nature of the offence:
Parking in a restricted zone or exceeding your time at a parking meter will cost between $40 and $60
Parking in a no-stopping zone will cost between $60 and $100
Parking in a handicapped zone will cost between $100 and $200 -- three times what it costs now
