once I bought a $80 item from US on Ebay, I ended up paying $40 on additional fees which makes the total $120. Beside GST and PST, the customer office also collect inspection fee, brokage fee, ...

If you are planning to travel to US, you can plan your purchase accordingly. You need to declare your future shippings at Canadian Custom. You will be issued a paper which you can give to the shipping company. This will waive your duty on your orders.
