I don't think you need to pay any duty fee for a used laptop. Actually for most electronics, such as SLR camera, CD-Walkman, portable DVD player and laptop PCs, they are cheaper in China than in North America. But to be on the safe side, you'd better ask them when you clear immigration in Beijing (if it costs below certain amount, let's say $500, you don't have to pay anyway). I only saw one guy get caught by the Chinese Customs in Beijing. He had a FULL suitcase of European perfumes (Xiang Shui)!

从加拿大海关的入关申报表，规定每个成年人离开加拿大超过48小时，可以免税带不超过400加元的物品。
实际上，如果你在第一次LANDING时申报你有一台笔记本电脑需要将来带到加拿大来，你的移民纸上会有记录，你下次再带也不需要上税。
