English As a Second Language, Tyark Training School
Level 6 – Advanced Part 2
Goals:
To develop more knowledge of vocabulary and idioms and grammatical forms in English; to understand normal daily English in conversations and in writing, as for example the newspaper or TV news reports.
To learn more about Canada and its culture, history and geography.
To be able to hold a conversation about topics of interest such as the news, weather, environment, politics, sports, etc.
To improve pronunciation; (a) to correct and complete pronunciation of all 45 sounds in English (b) to stress syllables properly (c) to use correct intonation for sentences as a whole (d) to understand and use different tones conveying emotion and humour.
Materials:
real-life materials including articles from newspapers, magazines, and books; videotapes of news and documentaries.
Please Note: The class will be even more interesting if students bring in materials that they find interesting, written articles, internet information (printouts), or videotapes; all are welcome.
If students have time and interest, cultural activities such as museum visits etc. can be organized on Saturdays.
