this is a transmission problem.
but ,first you can check if this is serious or not by yourself usually,it's very easy.

1   check the transmission oil. do this when engine running  and put shifter in P position,the oil level should be at the normal area, and the smell of the oil should be like normal instead of burnt smell  and of course the colour should be usually red,. if miss a lot oil, check the bottem of the car if there is a leak. in this case ,it   can be fixed without removing the transmission .
2    check if the  code indicator light is on or flash,this is easy too, you can see it on the panel while  you driving the car. if it's on or flash, that means there is electricity problem,usually this is not serious, may be you need change just some sensor, solenoid or harness ,this doesn't need to remove the transmission


note: if the above everything is good , this is then serious  you yourself can do nothing except you are specialist on this kind transmission ,that means it's inside problem, and the transmission need to be removed and rebuilt, this cost  usually 1500$ +tax or so depend on what kind of car it is.
