For the following case, u need to call and let insurance company know.  They will ask if u have someone to check on the house, empty mail box, etc. ON A REGULAR BASIS.

I don`t have an answer to LZ's question.

By the way, the travel insurance offered by TD is quite good, AFTER discount for people who also buy their Home Insurance.

Sorry, I don't know the details, we have friend check on our place when we go away.  I do believe if u don't tell them and something happen, 他们有权不负责的.  

In case u run a small business at home, u also need to tell Insurance Company.  May or may not increase premium.
