先回答你的问题,
captial gain/loss can be only triggered by a sell, redeemption, cancellation, etc. if you didn't make a sell, you dont' have to report your "pregnant captial gain"
stock,
keep records of the date of acquistion, # of shares, name of shares, and if there's any election you 've made before (very important).
if you make a sell. your tax payable on captial gain/loss= (proceed-average cost basis)*50%*your margin rate
mutual funds,
keep records of date of acquisition, # of units
and any reinvestment details, T3 break-down, (dividend, interest, return of capital, capital gain, foreign income, etc)
capital gain/loss calculation is the same from above.
you need to fill out Sch.3 on your personal tax return if you make any disposition during the year.
