My car is Mazda protege 2003. The check engine light was on for a month. Yesterday, I went to the Mazda dealer and got the car repaired. I was told that check engine is garanteed by Mazda. So my payment was $0. Top on that, the dealer offer free lift to work or home.

During the 5 years driving used cars, I have compared the small garages and dealers (Toyota and Mazda). I found that the labour rate is lower at the samll garages. However, they often charge you more labour time, and change more parts. The final cost of a small garage is often higher than a dealer shop. Still, you are not sure if your car will run properly for long. So now I just go to the dealer.

I didn't know about it. I have a MPV 2001. 2 months back, Engine Check light was on, Went the MAZDA dealer in Lachine, got it checked up, Paid $68. Now the light is on agian. Which dealer is yours?

I went to a Mazda in Quebec City.

Usually, a garage should provide one year or thousands mileage garantee after reparation, which is often printed on your receipt. Check your receipt and Bring it to your dealer. For the same reason causing check engine on, the repairation will be free. If not the same reason, you still can argue with them for a better price.
