我的车的 Convertisseur catalytique（UAP） 坏了，换一个新的价格比较高：($344.48/part + $59.95/labor) + TAX.  所以在这里请教一下换的必要性，他对车的影响大不大，建议换还是.....? :confused: :confused: :confused:

It is important to the environment. If you don't have it, you will
feel car more powerful and quick, but there will be lot of pollution.

If you remove it  and replace it with a straight pipe,
or if you use used cat, or if you destroy chemical compount inside,
it will be illeagal. Any garage doing this will face huge fine if caught.

You are lucky because in the poor province like Quebec, there is no
yearly inspection, nobody knows you drive a bad cat. The price
you listed is normal average, it can be up to $700 for some cars

好像还有一个问题是， 好像在  catalytic converter 的什么地方有sensor, 好像跟 发动机 工作相关， 不知具体是怎么回事？

Oxygen sensor (or so called OX sensor or namda sensor), which is
telling the computer some info about the combustion(gas:air mixture).
It is an important sensor and also an expensive one. Lot of people
complains about engine check light is because it.

You don't need change the cat if your car running just so so. You just
pretend you don't know it.
