It is easy. You can do it yourself.
Briefly, you ask Que Gvmt to write you a civil status letter (6 $, 5 yrs ago), take it to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to have it stamped (free), and the same morning, go to Chinese Embassy in Ottawa to have it stamped again.
Embassy, said, also accepts the legally notarized letter stating your civil status. You need to verify with the Embassy (not all the lawyers/notaries are recognized), and it is costly.
In China, this letter is often required to be translated into Chinese by an authorized translator (say, in BJ, you have to go to the gvmt office that registers this kind of marriages first, and they will tell you where you should go. Don’t just get it done yourself !)
All the potential delay has to be budgeted in advance. Those fking gvmt officials will enjoy watching you and your sweetheart crying, when you realized that you don’t have time/means there to make the documents to their taste.
Good luck |
