所有Concordia的学生都为学校的英语教学体制所困惑。没有TOEFL成绩的要参加入学分级的MICHIGAN英语考试，然后上ESL206、207、208。有TOEFL成绩的要想毕业必须参加 UWT 考试。有外语老师说这个让老外都感到头疼的考试只要错3处语法就Fail。
到底Concordia的英语教学体制有没有问题？ UWT 判分是否合理？ 如何才能找到捷径节省精力度过英语难关？
让我来向 UWT 宣战！！！

我觉得concordia的学生应该联合起来，一致要求取消它。
别的学校不都没着要求嘛.

请问上完 ESL206, 207, 208 一般需要多长时间?

其实觉得上一下语言班还是对自己有好处。就当成去新
东方的考试费用。（而且新东方的东西学得根本没有用
处）

我所说的挑战包含两重意思：
1 讨论Concordia的英语教学的指导思想、课程设置的合理性（事实上我身边的很多人都对之抱怨多多）
2 交流心得体会，团结起来度过英语学习的难关，让语言不再成为学习工作道路上的乱路虎

所谓UWT 是university writing test 的缩写。要求1小时内完成一篇500字左右的作文。Concordia规定所有有TOEFL成绩入学的学生必须通过这个考试才能毕业，否则要学英语专业的ENCL206、212课程。
我的英语老师在课堂上说，那个考试少三个冠词或其他语法错误就fail。
我的一位朋友已经修完所有的研究生学分，GPA达到3.5。但是三次UWT考试都告失败，只好再花两个学期时间和550$来学英语。他多次申辩英语不好GPA不会如此之高，得到的回答是我们的英语教学是最有特色的。
不知是老外迂腐还是生财有道......  :confused:    :confused:

I dont know what is UWT, but I think ESL 207-209 are useful. You can find that we Chinese students do have some problems in writing, especially for essay.

UWT，or university writing test, is a English proficiency test for undergraduate students.See here: http://web2.concordia.ca/uwt/ I don't think it has anything  to do with graduate students who
are working hard on ESL207-209

most people agree with that esl207,208 are useful
for improving writing skills.but the problem is
that when you finish esl209, you still need to
take uwt test and few people can pass it,espicially whose mother language is not english.so we have to find some idea to solve
this problem.

I know that if you pass ENGL 212, you do not need to pass UWT. In English department, there are three writing courses ENGL 206, ENGL 207 and ENGL 212, which is a little more difficult than ESL207,ESL208 and ESL 209, respectively. You can attend a placement test which is much easier than CELDT. ENGL 206 is very basic and start from how to write sentence. ENGL 207 teach how to write paragraph and summary. ENGL 212 teach how to write essay and book report. You need to write 3-4 essay in class and a book report. Final examine is  an essay about 500-700 word within 3 hours. Although ENGL212 is harder than ESL 209, it is much easier than UWT. If you get C-, you will pass UWT. By the way, most of students in ENGL212 are not Chinese and can speak very good Ebglish. They also complain the UWT is too difficult.
