Are u trying to make cookie or biscuit? I am sure that there are lots of recipe on the web.
Basic ingredients for cookie/biscuit is flour, oil/butter,water,++ Butter/oil make the cookie crumbly, water harden/toughen the dough. The way u discribed your cookie, there was too much water. Next time u can experiment with small pieces of dough, more water, more oil, etc. It's fun.

有些 recipes 要求用 baking powder; 有些要求用 baking soda. 我做过比较,同一recipe,加或不加 baking powder / soda,对成品影响不大
Excellent, one possible cause is due to 搅拌过度, as it creates glutin in the dough.
Baking powder create air pockets when heated and increase the volume of the finished product. I cannot recall the function of baking soda now. If no change when u skip your baking powder, it may be expired. Pour 1 tsp. of baking powder into hot tap water, it should zizle for a little while and bubble more than 0.5 inch above the water level. If not, put it into the gabage.
