I have federal landing paper, and plan to land in Montreal. I will come from United States, stay for one week in Montreal, apply for SIN card, and come back 3 months later to live permanently. Since I am not able to stay long this time, it seems I can first call from US to open file and make an appointment for applying for SIN, and then land according to the appointment. Please advise on my plan. Many thanks in advance.I can read Chinese.

As much as I know, it is not necessary to make appointment to apply for SIN card. You can walk in and fill out the forms on the spot. Please be advised that the every applicant must present in person to sign their signatures. To apply for SIN, it does not take long time. You should prepare a mailing address for officer to mail SIN to you.

As for ONPEN FILE, if you do not want to take the French program so-called COFI, you do not need to Open File. However, if you want to take Cofi, while making the appointment on the phone. The officer will ask your reside address in Montreal. So, this is problem for you to make appointment in USA.

hi,i applied health card in montreal,obtained my sin card in ontario.however i didn't ask them to open file for me,for the reason i don't have much time study cofi.But now i wonder,whether for apply for loan and bursary,lease and health card is enough,whether open file will influence my applying loan and bursary?
