i'm a new immigrant (five months in Montreal), so i'm not qualified to answer your question. but i'm totally agree with Newcamember. also, i come from France. so i do understand what u mean of 'economic drepression'. i guess the north european countries usually have better economic performance than the west europe, but perhaps much more closed in terms of immigration or integration.
Montreal has a strong economy in my opinion. this will not be understood by the people who never lived in northern or western europe.
here, the european sophistication has no place. people are open minded and perhaps a half of population in Montreal are immigrants (to be verified). historically speaking, most of people are immigrants. this, of course, excludes the first nations.
since there is no free diner, so master the languages and strengthen your expertise will make Canada be your best choice.
