It is going to be very great with one of the biggest meteor shower events of our lifetime. I would recomend everyone mark their calendars for this historic event. Plus it is just going to be mad cool.

On Nov. 17, 2009, Earth will pass through the 1466 stream again, but this time closer to the center. Based on the number of meteors observed in 2008, Vaubaillon can estimate the strength of the coming display: five hundred or more Leonids per hour during a few-hour peak centered on 21:43 UT.

还是夏天，看英仙座流星雨舒服些。记得小的时候，武汉的夏天，满大街睡凉床的。乘凉时，躺在竹床上看流星，一边听评书联播，真是一段好时光。

在加拿大，好像应该是东南方向，而不是东北方向，总之是偏东就没错，凌晨4点，18号还可以看，但是一定要在郊外，没有light pollution. 想着就冷，寒战ing.


看流星的准备
　　人们守夜看流星雨的方式各不相同。黄昏时分打个盹，洗个澡，穿戴整齐是有必要的。有一点你要谨记在心：每年的这时候，看流星雨可能是一个时间很长而又很冷的事。环境气温预计比当地电台或者电视台天气预报得更低。看流星雨由仰卧，凝视天空……和等待构成。贴近很快凉下来的地面，一动不动地坐着，你可能会变得非常冷。
　　等啊，等啊，你等待着流星的到来。如果它们看起来不会很快到来，如果你感觉寒冷和不舒服，那么你等待流星的时间就不会很长！因此，要确保你是暖和的，舒服的。厚厚的毯子、睡袋、铺地防潮布、汽车座垫和枕头是必要装备。
　　热腾腾的可可饮料或者咖啡不仅有助于你驱寒还能提供轻微的刺激。如能和朋友共同看流星那将更好。能保持彼此清醒，而且眼睛覆盖天空的范围也更大。要知道任何当地光污染或者障碍物如高大的树木或者建筑物都会影响你看流星。
　　在开始观看之前还要让你的眼睛适应黑暗。可能最好的方法是躺在草坪长椅上，仰望，这样你能向上看，看到整个天空。当你看到一道条纹闪现，你会感觉它向后越过天空。紧接着出现第二道条纹，第三道条纹，注意它们经过的路径。这里有狮子座的大镰刀，也是狮子座流星群的辐射点位置。直到凌晨1点，你才能完全看得见地平线东北偏东上空的狮子座流星群，这时候也是看狮子座的最佳时间。
　　因为狮子座流星群以与地球的相反方向围绕太阳做轨道运动，它们几乎是迎头撞入我们的大气层，形成可能是最快的流星速度：每秒72公里。这样的高速通常会产生白色、蓝色、水绿色甚至是绿色的流星。(

中国是看到18号凌晨就没有了。

看完2012电影就去看了，12点到的Granby附近的农田，星星很亮。太冷了，常躲在车里取暖。从12点到2点断断续续看到了十几颗。没看到雨的效果，有点失望。

今年的狮子座流星雨比较适合亚洲地区。

我和Montreal 天文馆联系了一下。他们推荐的是今年的双子座流星雨。适合北美地区（晚上11点就可以）而且今年预计比较强烈。

如果到时候天气好一定要去看，最好是几台车多些朋友一起，有说有聊

This year is favorable for the Geminids, the year’s grand finale. As a general rule, it’s either the Geminids or the August Perseids that give us the most prolific meteor display of the year. Unlike many meteor showers, you can start watching for the Geminids around 9:00 to 10:00 p.m., although this shower tends to gain strength after midnight and to climax at roughly 2:00 in the morning. With maximums commonly reaching 50 meteors per hour, this is a glorious time of year to sprawl out on your reclining lawn chair and to take in the show. Just be sure to bring along warm clothing, blankets or sleeping bags, and a thermos with a warm beverage. With an exceedingly thin waning crescent moon to rise at or shortly before dawn, the stage is set for a dark sky and a grand Geminid display. The best viewing of these often bright, medium-speed meteors should be from late night December 13 till dawn December 14.
