The YMCA-Cartierville is almost ready for its grand opening Saturday, April 24. There still remains
some work to be completed before the finishing touches are put into place on this imposing sports centre on Laurentien Boulevard and Keller st.
“The aquatic complex was conceived with much transparency so that one call see all that is happening at the various sporting areas,” explained the architect of the project, Renée Daoust, at the time of an exclusive visit organized last Thursday for elected officials and partners.
All is in glass and the place is covered in natural light. Pockets of light are found at the entry and each room has large windows. From both the interior and exterior, one can see everything that is taking place. “It is a transparent building, open to the community,” added Daoust.
It does not matter which of the three entrances that one uses, you can see the large 25-metre swimming pool, the training room, classrooms, the gymnasium, the daycare and the elevated racetrack.
As one can attest to in the training room, the complex has state-of-the-art equipment. It is also equipped with an air treatment system allowing for heating and energy recovery.
Among the Y partners, one finds the borough of Ahuntsic-Cartierville that will have at its disposal for the community many hours of use for the gymnasium and the swimming pool. Moreover, one multi-functional room will be available and will be able to be used by community agencies as a priority.
Sacré-Coeur Hospital is also partner and will soon open, in the complex, the Jean-Jacques Gauthier Cardio-Respiratory Rehabilitation Centre. The patients who are followed will have access to the Y’s sporting facilities during their rehabilitation.
To try out the facility, the community is invited to an open house April 24 and 25.
