8pm Scène Bell
Los de Abajo
Mariachis who master ska, punk, funk, rap, reggae, hip hop, cumbia, merengue, rock and electro... really? Mexico's Los de Abajo are living proof! Yes, modernity, Latin rhythms, politicized lyrics, Spanish and ska can rhyme! We knew when the entire Montreal Mexican and Latin communities headed to the Festival in 2004 and 2006... and we're betting the Mexican flag will be flying again when these dance missionaries engagé bring their cathartic and explosive show to the street!
9pm and 11pm
Nikki Yanofsky
Scène General Motors
At the 2006 Festival, 100,000 people discovered, with stunned amazement, a lovely 12-year-old girl who could sing with the power of Aretha Franklin. Since then, Nikki Yanofsky has visited us every year; you didn't think we'd miss the chance to have her for the 30th anniversary! By her request, she'll once again perform on the outdoor stage, for maximum mass-audience pleasure! The freshness, energy and nonpareil power of her voice will remind us all why we fell in love with her in the first place! |
