Public transit users are hoping the strike by maintenance workers will come to a screeching halt today. The 2,050 employees are voting today on a new contract offer that's been endorsed by their union leaders. The general assembly began at 9 o-clock this morning in the East End.

In the meantime -- reduced weekend hours are in effect. No metro today, but there is bus service from 6 to 9 am -- from 3 to 5 pm and from 11 pm to 1 am. The MTC says if the maintenance workers accept the deal, they gradually bring the entire system back on line throughout the day but full service wouldn't be restored until late tonight or tomorrow. This is day seven of the transit strike. |
