If you want to hike in winter or high altitude, you must have a warmer boots.

You have to buy different boots for different  temperature and altitude. If you only hike in summer and in Quebec, maybe you can use one boots.

The following brands are good:

Scarpa
La Sportiva
Vasque
Lowa
Kayland
Mammut
Millet
Garmont

yes, if you hike a lot both in the summer and winter, you'd better buy two pairs. and high cut shoes provide better support for your ankles. all the brands talked above are good, you can choose what you like. It's also important to bring your socks when you try the shoes. Your feet feeling comfortable is very important. I love Vasque, it is well made, durable, very comfortable, and affordable, but it is a little bit heavy though. Lowa is very good too, kind of expensive.

hard shell jacket and pants (windstopper), down jacket, fleece shirt and pants, base layer (wool or polyester, no cotton), hat, gloves, hiking boots, trekking poles, crampons, ice axe, gaiters, etc, the list can be very long, but the above is basic.

You can go to Atmosphere and MEC in Canada, but the price is not very attractive. There are a bunch of outdoor stores in NY state and Vermont where the price is much lower than in Canada. We normally go to the town of Lake Placid (NY) and Burlington (Vermont) as they are not far from Montreal. I like Gear X in Vermont, a lot of deals there. There are also EMS, North Face and Climb High you can go check them out.

虽说俺最高也去过超5千的稻城某山，但是看你的游记，我估计还比不上那些穿旅游鞋的HK游客专业。PLUS，高山和雨林相比，我想我还是比较喜欢雨林。

明年要是有1、2天的活动可以热身一下。。。
