I advise u not to learn it if u r over 30 years old and u don't have automobile experience.
it is a hard job. and the apprenticeship will take u 3-4 years.
and to be a car mechanic and repair cars, u need to own your tools,which will cost u a lot of money.
think about it before u make any decision.
once u got started, u have no way to turn to other career since u have spent your valuable time on it.

to jeanxu,
u need to own your normal tools to do the job. the company may provide some 'big' tools or equipments. the relationship between u and the company is kind of simple hiring and being hired.
they pay money, u do the job.
how to have the job done in time and good quality is up to u. so u need to own the tools.
before u get the qualification of full mechanic, u might go through the apprenticeship to get the knowledge and skills.

it will take u years to get confidence of this kind of job.
the costomer will NOT come back to your garage any more if they think your repair and trouble-shooting should be done in 2 hours but u did that for 4 hours, because they paid u 4 hours labor fee for a 2-hour repair.
