Where to buy one-way cheap flight ticket?

I plan to go back to Shanghai this Dec. (of course off the hot Christmas time). Some travel agency told me the one-way ticket would cost $750. I have US visa, but I was told US airlines are only cheap for round trip. IS that true? Anybody knows where I can get a cheaper ticket?

I got a round trip NY-BJ at 470US$
At this price, 你大概,就不用管回程那一半啦, if you dont want to come back.
