if you love architecture, donot change your major anywhere and any time, from my point, it is for sure that China has much more opportunies than canada, so if you finish your study here and go back,you will be treated differently for sure and easily to find a nice job even now. P.H.D is only useful for teaching which will spend you much more time and still basing on the master degree.
it is good for architectue marketing in canada from last year, all architecture graduates i know have found their job,it is natural to start as a drafting person, if you can prove your talent for design,you will get the chances also, but it is easier to achieve your architec dream when you go back to china.

设计师与妓女
1、都是服务性行业，都是靠卖艺为生，吃青春饭，老了就熬不下去了。
2、生活没有规律，只要客户需要，日夜都得工作，常因工作而得病。
3、必须尽最大可能满足客户各种各样不正常的要求。
4. 妓女靠的是三围，设计师靠的是三维。
5、喜合群，设计师集中的地方称为设计室，妓女集中的地方叫红灯区。
6、工作时精神高度集中，最怕外界干扰，工作完后身心舒畅，都有一种不可
替代的快感。
7、设计师为了拉客，通常会免费先提供自己的作品，妓女会先让你看看身段。
8、新上手的设计师叫菜鸟，刚入行的妓女叫雏鸡，都是好可怜的小动物。
9. 都没有同行业协会，都有被骗 ，被客户耍，白干还没钱收。
10.女孩子都不愿意干这两个职业。
11. 妓女多人配合叫淫乱，设计师多人配合叫合做。

不过总的来说设计师比妓女还惨：
1、妓女每个月有几天休息，设计师一年没有一天休息。没事做练习
2、妓女不干了叫从良，设计师如果不干了，叫做下岗！
3、设计师出名了，要做的活就更多；妓女出名了，就不用再做那么多了。
4、当妓女不需要经验，越新手越值钱，当设计师就不一样了。越老越拼命
5. 客户通常都能分辨妓女的优劣，却不能分辨设计师的水准。
6. 设计业普遍存在压价竞争，免费设计。妓女好象没有。
7. 色情行业有着大量的需求市场，设计行业仍然萧条。
8. 设计师没事要多练习，妓女可不用。没事逛商场做美容。还买些新衣服。
9. 再丑的妓女都能找到嫖客，新手的设计师不要钱当学徒也没人要。还怕套
技术
10. 妓女一般都有男朋友，设计师大多没有女朋友。
11. 妓女一般都吃香喝辣， 睡眠充足，一脸的玉润光滑。设计师一般都吃得
少，睡不着，要起早。 个个惨白的脸蛋,活象刚刚从坟墓里爬出的僵尸,吸血
鬼。
12，妓女一般都干着自己的事业,收多少赚多少，没有精神压力。设计师大多
替人打工，受尽剥削压迫，做一丁点的私活还得偷偷摸摸。
13，妓女一般都穿金戴银，左的士，右出租, 进者星级宾馆，出者桑拿酒吧。
生活多姿多彩，尽享生命中的每一天。 设计师大多混身乱着冒牌T恤, 常
年跟民工挤bus, 进者工作室 office, 出者工地现场 材料市场, 生活积度
乏味，无聊透顶。

hey, there. the only thing i agree with ur words is "different person from different background and in different situation gets different experience." i don't wanna argue with u. just follow ur summarization and speak out what i am thinking.
u said we lack of suffient language. but think it. why so many foreign architects could bring china so many good designs when they just landed in china and even didn't know chinese? design ability is first important, isn't it? though good language skill can help u express ur design concept clearer and get u closer to clients sometimes.
how to improve design ability? if studying in mcgill , or any other school is just for a license, don't do it. i knew an over 50 years old landscape architect.he told me that he was still exciting for his work everyday from his study till now, which impress me strongly. i don't know what anyone else will be, but that is what i want to be. find an aim for urself, whatever it is short term or long term. do it, enjoy it and enjoy life, if u really like architecture.
back to language skill. if u r concerned u r not good enough about ur tongue, learn it harder and harder till u get urself satistied.
about social net. we didn't have born social net even when we were in china. so called social net also depends on how deeply we merge into that society. same thing here. no pain no gain. if we think our language is not as good as those white and thereby afraid to communicate with others, how can we adapt canadian society and how could we get social net?
