it looks like this is not sublet. you transfer your lease to a new tenent and will not take any responsibility. in this case the landlord needs to check the credit of your successor and take risk, so he could ask for that amount for doing this.
if it is you taking the responsibility (sublet), you don't need to pay landlord this amount.
