I will stay one or two days longer in Lima.  

If you are not physically prepared, don't suggest you go for Inca trail.   High altitude plus 6-8 hours treking a day, some people will just breathe like a dog in the summer.

As checked with travel agent, low season around CDN$1000, high season around CDN1200. 11.5 hours transit. Normally you arrive early in the morning in Lima and leave Lima at later night.

hostel cost $10-35/day, food around $15/ day, if you go for fancy or wine taste, a lot of extra

basic admission to some places plus nazca line flight around $250.  I don't know the price for bus tickets.

Medical Insurance CDN$50 for under 30.  $68 for over 30.

My cost is around 4500 with GAP.  I guess if you go by yourself, you can do $2500 - 3500 for 3 weeks.

Inca trail is up to 4000m altitude. For me, walking 6-8 hours per day in the 0 altitude makes me exhausted. If you are young, fit and like trekking, recommend this, otherwise just take the train.

I think admission to machu Picchu ruins is $24, trains $60,

nazca line flight $50 for low season $78 for high season.

Some museums and archaelogical site costs around $2-15.

City tours in CUZCO and Lima will cost $25 each

It is great that you can travel at lower cost, we just find comfort zone for ourselves to travel, that's all about it.

The main reason I use GAP is that I travel alone and i don't speak any spanish. For some tickets, you can't book online, so I don't want to end up waiting or paying extra.

I went to Europe and Africa by myself using Hostel and local commune taxi with no problem.
