exempt work permit renewals or extensions for some CSQ holders currently in Quebec

Effective June 1, 2012, Quebec’s ministère de l’Immigration et des Communautés culturelles (MICC) has established provisions for some of the foreign nationals it has selected under its Programme régulier des travailleurs qualifiés (PRTQ) and its Programme de l’expérience québécoise (PEQ) to be able to have their work authorizations extended or renewed with a new employer while their permanent residence applications are being processed, without having to submit a Labour Market Opinon (LMO).

To be eligible, applicants must:

be holders of a valid work permit;
currently reside in the province of Quebec, and;
be waiting for a decision in regard to his or her application for permanent residency.

Individuals in the skilled worker class who hold a CSQ, who reside in Québec and whose application for permanent residence is currently being processed do not have to obtain a new CAQ before applying to prolong or renew their work permit. The employer is therefore exempt from the responsibility to provide a Labour Market Opinion (LMO).
To benefit from this waiver, your application for a work permit must be accompanied by a copy of your CSQ, your valid offer of employment and proof of payment of the application fees for permanent residence or acknowledgment of receipt.
