Hi Ballhel, finally I found another real 江湖高手.
Yesterday, when I know you will come long way by Metro and Bus to South Shore just for playing game with me, I told my family when they asked me how good player I will play against : "He behave really as a 江湖 like me, so he must be good.", I waited for you on the court more than half an hour alone with short on me!(image how that feel with yesterday's temperature, I think I behave like a 江湖 too).
You started the match with 2 games to 0 lead, you almost beat me in the first set, I just figured out your real weakness in time and made a correct game plan to beat you by 6:4, then I won the second and third sets(sounds easy, 6:0, 6:2, but not that easy at all), but in the fourth set, after I had 5:2 lead, you even fight back to win the set by 7:5!, I really don't remember when I once had this experience: lost a set from 5:2 lead. I know I just lost my game plan although I kept reminding myself: "he will return my serve with slice short and low ball, so go to the net after serve.", but I found I still stayed at the baseline after my serve. the reason I lost the final set is not I was a little bit tired as you friendly mentioned after the match, just because I was not stick to my corret game plan as I played in the previous sets, or got all the chances to go to net to finish the point, in a tournament long time ago, I once lost to a player like you with consistent backhand slice and made me hit my shot all around the court, and also you can finish the point with all different shots: groundstroke, volley, smash, lob and drop shot etc., that's exactly my style when I really want to win the match. After that bad loss in the tournament I found the best way to beat him is go to net to cut and put his slice shot away, yesterday, I just made the same mistake again. it is just another example of the No # 1 tip for controling your opponent: control yourself!(control yourself to stick to the right things, not the stupid wrong things), it's true that the most difficult thing is really control yourself, not others, especially when you get tired and your mind easily go out of control or your body just don't do what you expect. I know it's normal for me to have that since yesterday I already:
worked more than 8 hours;
cycling around 2 hours(bicycling to work and back home);
waited for you on court close to one hour ;
rally with you around half an hour to let you get used to the court;
played game more than 3 sets;
but still I have to control myself no matter how tired I am, that's the thing I have to improve next time.
anyway, it's really a good game, and I have to say it's not fair for you since you are just in Montreal, and not used to the court etc., so if you want to play more, we can play anywhere you like this coming weekend, I will rent a car, so I also can
show you around Montreal not just play tennis.
Thanks again for making me move all around the tennis court and hit all the shots in order to win the game, and also for making me have wet shirt even in so cool weather teperature! |
