Most of the early immigrants are cantonese. As they didn't speak Manderin at all, they don't feel u r a part of them. 8 r# d" @* n! c9 Z: F/ q
But from my experience in Toronto, in '97 few people in ChinaTown speak Manderin. As more and more Manderin speakers come, in 2001 most of them understand and speak some Manderin. I don't see discrimination there.
