This is a naive topic which will never have a definite and unanimous answer.
When one asks whether a city or country is good or not, it can have several meanings. One, objectively speaking, is this city or country good by world-recognized evaluation standard? By this account, Montreal is one of the greatest cities in the worrld and Canada is one of the top countries to live in. Much better than any city in China. There is no doubt about it. Any comment that this is a poor or bad place just does not carry any weight.
The other one is whether you have a good life in Montreal or Canada? This is a very personalized experience and everyone can give you a different answer. Just like you ask people in China whether China is good or not. The answer depends on whom you ask. If you are new here with limited resources, live in a less desirable neighbour, do not have a good job and income and do not know about the local culture, and use your Chinese mindset ( such as numbers of new skyscrapers) to judge the place here, you tend to take the leaf as the forest and think what you see at this moment as the whold picture of Montreal or Canada. Look at the local people here, they just enjoy their lives here. They do not give a damn to the idea of moving to US or China, because this is their hometown and a great city where they have a great living.
It is not that Montreal is poor when you talk about the housing, etc, (maybe you live in an old and crapy house here which is the only one you can afford and you draw that conclusion that housing in China is much better). It is because you are not rich enough. Give me one million Canadian dollars, I will buy you a nice masion in West Island or Westmount or The Mont Royal and you can enjoy your life here.
It is pretty simple. If you like some aspects of life here that you can not get in China, be down-to-earth and work hard a.s.a.p and you will achieve great things in life, at least in the long term. If you do not like it here, go to wherever you like and find your happiness there. It is a waste of time to sinply ponder over whether Montreal is nice to live in or not. If money is not a consideration, there are plenty of nice places to live around the world, and Montreal is on the short list. Go and visit those nice neighbourhoods and you will have a new idea. |
