When I came to Canada as a student 15 years ago, I had opportunities to know a lot chinese refugee applicants in Toronto, because I worked part-time for the federal refugee court as a translator for chinese refugee applicants. I knew very well how the immigrants lived then. In 1995, a Canadian lawyer invited me to be a partner of the new immigration consulting company, and I refused, because I did not want more people come here to suffer.
In 1995, when I worked in Hong Kong, quite a few friends in China asked me about how to immigrate to Canada, I advised them to apply by themselves (save money) or better stay in China. I could have set up an immigrant consulting company to make a lot of money out of these guys, however, I did not want to make such bloody money. A friend of mine, who decided not come here in 1996, became a multi-millionaire in China (his own company in ShuZhou make a net profit of more than RMB 100 million last year. His company was formed in 1998 )
You can see that a lot of immigrant women (all races) look at least 5 years older than they are, and a lot of immigrant men become white head at around 35
For a lot of people in China, two simple jobs are not enough to buy a house or a car for a family . However, in Canada, two simple jobs can make it. For example, a couple can easily make $1500 * 2 = $ 3000 dollars net each month, plus the family allowance (due to low income), so, they can start to buy a house (pay mortgage), and own cars (may be second hand, that is OK). In this respect, life is much better for an average chinese to live in Canada.
Actually, most chinese immigrants are average in China, especially those arriving recent years, so do not try to be somebody here. Doing a simple job is not a shame.
I also find that Canada is the best place for a small business.
