Do you know that Univ. Of quebec in Montreal has MBA program? I recommand you the executive one. Personnally. my tuitions fees ( which is lowerest in Montreal) got something back in form of KM. The most fascinating is financing and buisness strategy. Very useful.

To kevinWang1970:

Hey,What's wrong with retail people! Don't you say it's not a decent job! go congratulate on

For God sake, did you talk with all the Chinese MBAs graduated from those previously mentioned Canadian universities? if you failed to do so, statistically speaking, you were telling a lie.

Bad boy, wake up, you gotta believe, aside from losers, there are some Chinese MBAs on the planet earth, who are more than capable of finding a decent MBA job, even in Canada.

Be happy.

Ok, since there is some confusion here needed to clear up, I would spend a little of time to give you guys a lecture.

First of all, do you need an MBA degree to sell insurance to the Chinese immigrants? No, the knowledge needed for this type of job is nominal. A few weeks of company in-house training should be suffice. Does an MBA degree provide value-added service? No, IF they really know the financial markets, they will have jobs either in Banks or investment firms, not doing these shitty jobs.
So by doing retail sales jobs, they are degrading themselves to level of some old immigrants, like Ms. Yang Yi Qu etc. You can find their photos in all major Chinese newspapers. So all I can suggest for these retail sales is not to put McGill MBA graduate as a tag on ads in the newspaper. It is an insult to McGill MAB program.

To answer your 2nd question: This year Financial Times business school ranking is just out, and McGill ranks No 36. The other two (Concordia, HEC) could not make into top 100. To be fair, after meeting a few students from all three schools, I find out these MBA students are all quite ambitious and smart. But do they have bright future after completing their degrees? One and only criteria here is whether they can find decent jobs. As far as I know, NONE of HEC English MBA graduates have found A job! Concordia and McGill may be a little bit better. But still many are jobless. As for those who are lucky enough to have jobs, how many of them are real decent MBA jobs??? However, for some people if they really want to go back to China later and if they have either good connections or good experience before coming to Canada, there are still chances in China. One of my friends, he got his MBA from Concordia, and now he has a 350,000RMB job in Beijing. Having said that, I am not saying these Chinese MBAs are not smart enough to find jobs, but only because it’s not their fortes to compete with natives in these fields. Please tell me which company will hire a Chinese speaking with strong Accent to manage local employees?? Since as far as I know, it is really a torture to listen to Chinese Professors’ lecture. So you think the company will let a Chinese MBA represent company to give presentations in front of the customers or negotiate deals with its client? Wake up!

kevinWang1970:

Your comments make total sense (your opinion on sales people not pegging themselves with an MBA, in particular). just wanna give you a headsup on stuff.

In response to your question "lease tell me which company will hire a Chinese speaking with strong Accent to manage local employees?? "..well. yes, maybe...Nevertheless, this has been a pain in the ass for long...What is an MBA graduate up to?

Sorry, the reality is...(well, it seems like we love to dwell on this subject)..just give you guys a dose of reality: no one has ever made MBA a title or a position to manage people, so stop worring about managing local people, OK? that being said, what is a decent MBA job? Management Consulting? sure, though that has become a dirty phrase for quite a period of time. Investment Banking? absolutely! who could possibly be more competent and suitalbe than an gold-plated MBA..balur balur balur...Portfolio Management/Investment management? possible, but not restrict to, especially in Quebec..it does no pay WELL! Finally, Marketing? Good match! ..sorry, end of the story. Don't blame poor MBAs for failing to find a job in accounting, corporate or become a store manager!..well, we could debate on that or as somebody says, when wind blows, even turkey flies!

So, at the end of the day, do we have any exceptional Chinese MBAs to be highly regard as a "role model" or a not-a-loser, among others?????
---a few in Toronto, as far as I am aware of, NO INVESTMENT BANKERS in Canada (and I'll raise anybody dare to challenge me on that)! tons of junior guys in portfolio management/investment management...several ivey and UOFT guys in consulting, oh, even HEC yields some quant guys/*****s at Quebec pension fund (work their ass off, and get paid just like live on EI)..Concordia, never heard of any dudes from there...McGill...I actually know a Taiwanese working as a portfolio manager, I don't know if it counts.

again, what's wrong with retail guys???

Your points are well taken. I am totally in the agreement with your opinion, especially we are on the same page about these retail guys. We may raise the question to the Dean of B-school at McGill that whether his goal or vision is to produce MBAs to become retail sales men?

With respect to your input about managing people, I agree that NO degree is able to put you on the position to a manager. We are talking about leadership, role model, unfortunately all these are based on the assumption that you are effective speakers. So maybe a Chinese can be a store manager to manager few low-end local guys. But he/she will never get the chance to speak before the top management in a boardroom unless the topic is dealt with China issues.

Your input about the real decent MBA jobs are more or less correct. And I do believe that few Chinese are doing consulting/banking/portfolio management work. The question is what the percentage of the graduates can be lucky enough to get these jobs? I will say around 20% max. Say McGill usually enrolls around 25 Chinese per year. So there will be maximum 5 people ending up with decent jobs. So how about the rest? A good question! Do you still want to be an MBA?
