Mother drowns, toddler survives in Montreal indoor pool
(CBC) - A woman is dead and her young child is in critical condition after what appears to be an accident in an apartment building swimming pool in Montreal's Cote-des-Neiges district.
A man who lived in the building went to the indoor pool at about 8 o'clock Tuesday night, says Montreal police spokesperson Raphael Bergeron. The man reports having seen two bodies floating in the pool before calling 911.
"The Urgences Santé technicians were on the scene. They gave CPR to the two victims, but unfortunately the 32-year-old woman was found dead at the hospital. For the three-year-old girl, she was transferred to hospital where right now she is in a critical situation," Bergeron said Wednesday morning.
Investigators do not suspect any foul play in the drowning, police say.
Pools in residential buildings are rarely staffed by lifeguards.
