Backup the files as soon as possible. It is possiblely a sign that your disk is going to fail.
The problem could be some bad sectors in your disk.

I have been using xp for months now with no problem until now. I have 2 hard
disk drives. 2 Maxtor using NTFS. All of a sudden, Windows is not recognizing my secondary Maxtor NTFS drive. It shows as working properly in Device Manager but when I try to populate it a message says that the drive is not initialized.
Before this happened I noticed that any time I accessed the Maxtor sometimes the disk light would stay on a long time. Any ideas? All help appreciated. No new drivers have been installed.
If you need additional info, let me know.
Thanks in advance,
