Troubleshooting steps from Microsoft Technical support

ISSUE DESCRIPTION:

MSBlast Virus infection.
COMPLETED ACTIONS TAKEN AND RESULTS:

If your computer attempts to restart while following these steps:
- Go to Start, Run.
- Type "shutdown -a".
In order to prevent random shutdowns, press CTRL-ALT-DEL together, then in the Processes Tab, find MsBlast.exe -> Click on it, then click on End Process.
1.Go to Start, Run -> Type dcomcnfg and click ok.
2.Click on Component Services, Computers, My Computer -> Right-click on My Computer and go to Properties. And click Default properties Tab
3.Uncheck Distributed COM on this computer.
4.Go to Start, My Network Places -> Right-click on My Network Places and go to Properties.
5.Right-Click on Local Area Connection and go to Properties.
6.Go to the Advanced Tab -> Check "rotect my Computer and Network by limiting or preventing access to this computer from the Internet." Click Ok.
7.Download the Security Patch from Microsoft:

8.Run the patch: It should restart the computer once completed.
At this point, Microsoft strongly suggest that you format your computer and re-install Windows. If however this is not possible, then follow the next steps.
Download the FixBlast tool from Norton:

9.If you are running Windows XP, disable system restore:
- Go to Start, My Computer -> Right-click on My Computer and go to properties.
- Under the System Restore Tab, check "Turn off System Restore". Click ok.
10.Now run the FixBlast tool.
11.Once it finnishes scaning, it should have found 1 infected file and 1 registry entry. If not, try running the scan in Windows safe mode.
