Q:
How to have two computers (one iMac, another PC) share a HP1200 Laserjet?

Currently, there is a PC which logs in novell
netware and connect to a HP 1200 laserjet, now I would like to connect the iMAC  to the same HP 1200 printer by sharing.  I tried to login the iMAC to novell
netware, but it didn't work well. Can anybody tell me if this can be done by trying "tcpip printing" ? If so, what's the protocol and what software I need to install
in the iMAC, if not, is there any strategy to connect the new iMAC to share  the HP 1200 printer with the PC ? The PC and the iMAC located very far in distance.

Any strettegy or assisatance is welcome.

很像Novell认证的考试题啊。。。

我在国内没用过iMAC，也不熟悉Netware。用TCP/IP Printing应该也可以，但我觉得用硬件手段来解决比较容易。不知你的HP1200是否带"n"，如果不带"n"，就去买一个HP外置打印服务器hp jetdirect吧。去年的时候人民币400左右。这样iMAC就不用装什么东西，制定打印机IP就可以了。HP1200接到hp jetdirect上，hp jetdirect接到HUB/Switch上，Netware用IPX/SPX与HP1200相联，Apple用TCP/IP Printing。想当然的东西比较多，希望能给你一点帮助。

It's a good help. It looks like an exam, but actually it comes from the real life. My friend uses PC normally, but when she prefers some Mac application, she got an IMac, then is comes the story.

all you need is a HUB.

not necessarily, HUB is a good solution although it's gonna cost you. You can try this, but you need to make sure you have installed all the components of Novell on the Mac. Then, try installing the printer on the PC since my experience has been, PC as much trouble as they are, are good for networking.

The set the printer as a network share on the pc, then try playing around with it on the Mac, you should be able to get it. I have had this before and it took me a bit of time but I did get it to work.
