If your machine directly connect to Internet and behind a firewall setup by you, you need open following ports just for MSN:
Ports 6891-6900 File transfer
Port 6901 voice communications
If you are using DSL/Cable router, which distributor IP through NAT (Network Address Translation), you need make sure the router support UPnP. MSN Messenager need this prototocal.
The D A M N M$ has its own router which supports this UPnP. Old and cheaper routers don't. Lots of new routers claim UPnP compliant, but end up no.
You either use Yahoo, or put another NIC into your computer to share the connection and make router as a switch(aka Hub). |
