各位好,我家今天刚装好videotron的cable internet,有几个问题想在这里请教大家.
1:modem是webstar的,在电话里用visa卡付了钱然后他们带到我家来的,不过好像跟商店里卖的不一样,哪个好些?价格一样耶.
2:包装盒里有两张碟,一张是modem的驱动程序,另一张是videotron的start-up.之前我在电话里注册internet服务的时候,那里的人给我了用户名跟密码.但今天我只是用第一张碟装好驱动就可以上网了,也没用什么用户名跟密码,这是怎么回事?后来我按照start-up里面的步骤做了,但也不知道有什么意义.现在每次开机都是自动上网,开始start-up自动创建的一个videotron-mtl网络连接程序也没用,而且就算我用它去连接也连不上,这是怎么回事?有哪位可以跟我详细说明一下吗?
3:从哪里可以进入videotron的邮箱呢?好像不能从他们网站进入吧?!难道只能用outlook?
4:现在浏览速度很不错,不过下载速度好像没有想象中那么好,一般达到多少算正常呢?各位用什么上网优化程序呢?在xp下面可以用的.用cable上网不用在电脑设置方面做任何改动吧?
6:modem自带的驱动程序似乎没有通过xp的安全检测,虽然可以用,但好像有点不放心.请问哪里可以下到最新的驱动?

Haha, Videotron always provides poor service, which they may expect you to find out, ok here are my experience:

1. I bought the self set-up box this June, and at that time Videotron offerred 1 month free for self set-up, but now it offers 2 months, so you should first make it clear to Videotron that you will be able to enjoy the benefit;
2. Yes, the Videotron set-up disc will help the first-time user log on automatically, but it will expire after 10 days, so you need to register your own user name using Videotron's telephone tech service, but the password you used is ok, actually that sounds weird, but at least I was in this case;
3. Videotron-MTL is for your 7 hour dial-up service (free comes with your Videotron cable service in order to let you access email when you are not at home). When you open your PC, Videotron will make its own logging at start-up!
4. Videotron's website is crap, you can only find telephone number there.
5. Even on my Celeron laptop, the speed is very good, in some cases the download ratio can be over 500kbps (when downloading NBA RM chip on this web page). But cable modem uses cable, so I heard that in some area or in some specific time when too many users are on cable tv, the download speed will be slower, I can't feel it.

Conclusion, Videotron rocks, though its staffs are always on strike!

我听说用samsung的modem,videotron无法检测到你每个月使用的流量大小,有这回事吗?
videotron-mtl只是个拨号程序?那怎么没用,连不上呢?在检测用户名的时候说videotron那边没反应.现在每次开机都自动连上internet,任务栏里有个图标,显示安全删除硬件.(有点奇怪)那十天之后过期了,还要通过电话激活?这里不太明白,只觉得麻烦.
关于邮箱,怎么自动检测?
关于速度,国内网站下载大概100-300k,国外网站300-500k,有时候上到600-700k.

RMC, for your questions, here is my personal answer.

1. For the modem, no much different between them, so don't worry about it, but right now videotron can check your monthly usage by serial number of the modem which is only apply to Motorola, so if you have other style modem, download and upload limitation is not a problem for you.

2. Cable modem will connect your PC to internet automaticlly after you installed driver of modem, you are just like a LAN user of Videotron.

3. Outlook is a easy way to use the email, you can't check you mail on their homepage, but you can configue your outlook by their instructure which you can find it on their website.

4. The speed depends on how many users share one PCM, so if there are less people using cable modem in your area, your speed will be a little faster, normally it's already fast enough, so I do nothing on it.

5. Don't worry about it.

多谢各位的答复~!
看到iverson的答复,说自动连接十天之后会到期,我今天给videotron打了电话,问他是不是十天之后要打电话确定,他就问我的modem序列号,然后就说到时候不用再打电话确定了,可能是提前帮我注册好了吧,不过他要我的modem序列号,应该不会检测到我每个月的流量吧?到时候把我做典型抓就糟了.:-P平时在商店里有得卖的那种带包装的videotron的modem是什么牌子的?应该是motolora吧?好像还没看到过samsung的.
不过我的videotron-mtl拨号程序好像还是用不了,请指教.
e-mail的问题解决了,只是我喜欢直接上网站看邮件,现在只能用outlook了,这点videotron做得满奇怪的.
我的帐号是不是要等第一张帐单收到之后才能知道?之前收到一封买modem的发票,上面也有个帐号,不过好像不是那个,在videotron.com上面的monthly usage里面不能完整输入.

1. Videotron people asks your modem's serial number simply for them to open the account for you, if your modem is not motorola, you don't have to worry too much;
2. The modem i am using is Scientific Atlanta, made in Taiwan, i can't check my usage either, but as long as i can't, they don't have the right to charge for surplus usage fee, as it is not fair and against business rules here in canada.

Videotron-mtl is for 56K fax modem connection. Plus, Outlook is way better than website email server when you are in town, soon you will know!

The account number which you can check your monthly usage, it's not as same as the account number on your bill, you should call them and get it, it should be vlxxxxxx something.

For the dial up connection, i don't know why you keep asking this, it's for phone user (which you may use it when you are travelling, outside of your home) only. It's not makeing any sense to use it when you have high speed internet connection at home. Also you can't use your phone anymore when you dial up, if you are not using laptop, forget about it.

感谢angryfish之前的答复,不过你所说的v****是用户名,并不是你的帐户号码,帐户号码只会在你的帐单上出现.
我一直问videotron-mtl不是因为我现在要用它,但是我总不想设个不能用的拨号放在机子里吧?!再说如果以后真的要在外地想看邮件,不能用怎么办?这不是会不会用的问题,而是能不能用的问题.

感觉webstar的modem最大的缺点就是没有电源开关. frown
