I am using Sympatico ADSL. I have a D-Link Router which was already configured well under Windows XP.

I tried to connect Internet in Linux system. I followed the instructions you posted here. In detail, I set up the Ethernet card at eth0, it's ok. Then i executed command adsl-setup, answer all the questions step by step. At last, when I use adsl-start, it always give me "...........time out".

Could you help me to figure it out?

I've already saved the PPPoE username and passward with primary DNS, secondary DNS in the Router. Is that the problem? But how to do it?

Well, I used to think about it. But I can't browse the website by Netscape.

And what can i do if want to reset it as beginning?

is the IP address you get under linux the same as under XP?

try to use the brower to access the Router Web Configure Interface, if you can not do it. set your Linux to get IP/DNS using DHCP

I tried to use Netscape to locate the router's setting page, however it doesn't work. How to set my linux to IP/DNS by using DHCP? Since the DHCP can assign a IP to my Ethernet card autmatically.

When i run ifconfig, linux gives me eth0 and lo. For "lo", the IP is 127.0.0.1 and the netmask is 255.0.0.0

When i run adsl-start, the error message is as following:

..............TIMED OUT
/user/sbin/adsl-start: line100: 1108 terminated       $CONNET "$@">/dev/null 2>&1

You should get a IP in the same network segment with the router.  Let router do the PPPoE.
you may get the IP by DHCP or config it by yourself, but be the same segment.

so you should not run adsl-start in your linux box. get a proper ip, you could get online. check the status in router's setting page.

Hi guys,

Really appreciate your help. It's done very well. And I really enjoy it.

I still have a little problem with "lqd". what is lqd? and lqd shows "localhost IP address is not availble" as linux starts.
