If you are not in a special situation

FIf you are not in any of the special situations described above, you will lose your eligibility for the Health Insurance Plan if you spend more than 183 days outside Québec during a calendar year. In such a case, you must contact the Régie during office hours to report that you will be absent from Québec.

You will lose your eligibility for the entire calendar year during which you are absent and you will not be entitled to use your Health Insurance Card during that year. In addition, the Régie can ask you to reimburse the cost of the healthcare services you received during the year, including those you received before your departure and when you return. Here is an example of the loss of health insurance coverage.

To save you from having to pay for any healthcare you receive during a calendar year in which you lose your eligibility, you can arrange for private insurance coverage.

If your absences from Québec total 183 days or more because you are hospitalized, you must send the Régie a medical certificate proving that it is impossible for you to return to Québec. The certificate must indicate:

• the beginning date of the incapacity preventing your return to Québec;

• the expected duration of the incapacity.

This will enable you and the person assisting you to remain covered by the Health Insurance Plan.

When you return

: i2 H0 J& b) C( f! g6 Z0 ~) T: `You must call the Régie or visit an office of the Régie during office hours to report that you have returned to Québec after spending 183 days or more outside Québec during a calendar year, even if you had notified the Régie of your departure.

$ T8 u% r. ?# h) p) ?  sAt that time, you must inform the Régie of any change regarding your absence, such as its duration or the reason for it. For example, a person who had left Québec temporarily to pursue studies but who instead carried out a contract outside Québec must inform the Régie of this.
