Grapes for wine making
On TV news ~ 2 weeks ago, Ontario vineyards will harvest grapes ~3rd week of Sept. instead of 1st week of Oct due to extreme weather.
Following is list of places that (may) sell wine making grapes, most of them sell frozen must(grape juice) at the same time. This listing is different from Wine Kit supplier listing that I've posted in 2009 below.
Le Seigneur du Vin, 514-366-8000, 1820 Av. Dollard, Lasalle – facility to press grapes right on premise.
? – Raisin L.M., 514-366-9083, 2101 rue Dollard, Lasalle – retailer of ? frozen juice, boxes of wine making grapes when in season. No facility to press. Look for this at the corner of parking lot outside of Maxi.
? – Ruviano Inc., 514-324-4311, 6660 Jarry est, St- Leonard - retailer of ? frozen juice, not sure if they have grapes.
? – Lazio Inc., 514-325-2200, 6660 Jarry est, St- Leonard - retailer of ? frozen juice, not sure if they have grapes. (this is at same address of above, next stall I guess)
La Favorita Fruits Ltd, 514-955-8952, 6585 rue Magloire, St-Leonard – believe it`s a fruit store, but may sell wine making grapes when in season.
Les Aliments C. Martins, 514-845-3291, 123 Villeneuve est, Plateau Mont-Royal – this is a fruit store, sells frozen juice all year round. May sell grapes when in season.
Mosto Classico – Ruviano, 514-324-4311, 6705 Boul. Metropolitain est, St-Leonard – I visited this place about 5 years ago. Duplication of #3 above, call ahead to reconfirm CURRENT address.
Vin-O Depot, 514-389-6800, 8950 Bould. St-Michel – This may be the biggest place to pick up frozen juice and/grapes. Few years ago, saw a very good sales after grape season.
Other places:
- Corner of Jerry/Langelier (may be SE corner), about 5-6 open-air stalls,
- Jean Talon Market, there’re machine(s) to press grapes right on premise/inside market
- The big supermarket on the south side of Metropolitain, not sure between Langelier /Lacordaire or Lacordaire/Viau, sell frozen juice and wine making grapes when in season.
- Few years ago, I saw boxes of wine making grapes in the big Intermarche on Langelier or Lacordaire, the one that's a bit north of Hwy 40.
Starting Sept, if u can get Italian or Portuguese free community newspaper(s), take one and look for advertisement. Advertisement starts ~1 week before grapes arrive.
If you like driving around, don’t mind going to US, it may not be bad idea to check out Mayers Cider Mill Inc. They provide full line of juice/grapes/accessories at good price. http://mayerscidermill.com |
