My experience is a little different from yours:
There is a ~government department that auctions government/? repossessed homes.  For better locations, better homes, the bids ended up almost market value.  Don't touch those that nobody wants, renovation problem etc.  My friend go there quite a few times over the years, has never found any deals there.  Complete waste of time.

我也懒得查自己的帖了，大致是说白菜价在加拿大很难有了，因为法律不同，对价格有限制。此类房源信息也很难得到，掌握在少数人手中，如果有好的，他们会自己吃掉，轮不到外面人。大部分破坏严重，买了白菜，还要花金条的价去修复。好像这种房子拿来出租还行，自己住就算了。我有认识人经常买房，专门请圈里人帮他留意，说我住的区基本上一周就有一套，有不少大房子（我们圈外人根本不知），不过也没看中合适的。
