蔬菜和水果 的特别地方 (低收入人士)

I don't have much info on Food Banks, but have heard of the following special place for fruits and vegetables.

- Thursdays only, 18:30-21.
- The $6 supplies can last 2 persons for MORE than 1 week. (U need a shopping cart with wheels)
- Quality of produce are poor, go bad quite quick. (I'm not 100% sure)
-  Simple registration: only require proof of address or something, can buy once every 2 weeks.
-  Special registration: with proof of low income (I assume), can buy every week.
- 2 line-ups at the door; one side is repeated clients, the other side is new clients, something like that.
-  Apparently many people go there from far away.
-  Apparently people at that Church don't like Chinese.

Misc. info

Our last box on March 3 was a bit expensive, we skipped once for personal reason.  For whatever unknown reason, BBBB changed delivery of 7/4 to 14/4.

Once in a while we do get 'bad' vegetable, this program may not be good for some of u.  For us, we don't have much vegetable store around us + other personal reasons, we will continue to stay on this program.

Montreal Organic Food Baskets and Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)

Following copied from: http://montreal.about.com/od/shopping/a/mtl_basket_pros.htm

Organic Food Basket Pros: Affordability, Taste & Community Support
From saving money (most fruit and vegetable basket plans vary from $15 to $35 a week) to supporting the local economy as well as giving a bigger share of your money to the farmers themselves, the pros of buying organic food baskets are as plentiful as the surprising selection, quality and quantity of produce you'll get every week when you join a CSA farm. Here's an example of what you can expect to find on a weekly organic food basket.

In addition to getting to know the people who grow your food, organic farms selling food baskets in Montreal protect soil and food quality by avoiding pesticides, chemical fertilizers, herbicides, antibiotics, growth hormones and genetically modified seed.

And before you read the cons, take a look at what Molly Watson, your About.com Guide to Local Foods has to say about the advantages of eating local in general.

Cons: Practicality, Choice & Risk
CSA farms generally adhere to strict weekly schedules with drop-offs at select neighborhood locations. So if your schedule is as unpredictable as a flight attendant's, you might have difficulty obtaining your pre-purchased basket. Some farms have a no refund policy, others give the missed baskets to charity and still others make alternate arrangements (such as farms specializing in meat) so do check how flexible a CSA farm is regarding scheduling, drop-off locations and refunds.
