总体来说,Ballroom 在走下坡路,跳的人越来越少,但 salsa 却火爆,说明大众的口味在变, 人的精神需求在变。这是个严肃的社会问题,不是一两个舞厅就能改变的。
Salsa has been popular for quite a few years, not just a recent occurrence.
First of all, it doesn't need much space to pack in a lot of dancers.
Secondly it is a lot easier to concentrate on one dance to do it well.
In salsa club, the DJ plays salsa song after salsa song and then more salsa, so you get lots of chances to practice the same steps again and again.
For the average person to get into social dancing, doing one or two dances, like salsa and merengue, is much more doable.
Learning 5 or 6 dances at the same time is a daunting task,
so the dropout rate is far higher for guys due to the initial time/effort investment.
For women, even with just the basic steps, as long as the men can lead properly, the dancing can happen.
The same can not be said in the opposite case,
which is beginner men dancing with intermediate women.
It doesn't mean that salsa is superior, it just means that it is easier to get into for average person.
I find salsa club OK for 30 min to an hour.
Anything longer is boring. I just can't stand doing the same dance 10 songs in a row.
Another problem is that although there are some good salsa songs but the vast majority of the salsa songs are very uninspiring, which I don't even want to listen to while sitting down, never mind dance to it.
On the other hand, there are plenty of good music for waltz, chacha, samba, swing, etc.

Line Dance 是老头老太太的舞,我就觉得年轻人跳那玩意儿要么是没舞伴,要么真是无聊。相比之下, 国标还不错。
I've seen social dancers doing line dancing and looking great.
They do it for the change of pace.
It is not only for the old people.
By the way, what is commonly called 国标 is "international" style, which includes "Standard" and "Latin" dances.
"International" is just a name and refers to the style developped in England. It doesn't imply that it is superior to American style or social style. People seem to think that because it has the name "international" in it, then it is the BEST style across the world.
It is not. It is just different. That's all.
Just like the word "general" in the name "General motor".
There is nothing special about it.
It is just a name used for a brand.
For example bolero, west coast swing or hustle are great dances but they are not part of the "international" style. |
